Today I arrive at work only to find my boss talking to someone on the
phone. As soon as he hung up he said "'s go to Fry's". So he and I
bopped over the the San Jose Fry's. He told me that we were meeting
someone he knew there but didn't elaborate. Once there we met up with a
man in a business suit and we went inside. Denny, my boss, explained that
he had purchased a Jaz drive with Fry's " garentee" which states
that if the unit fails within a period of time Fry's will replace it right
away with no questions asked. He told me that Fry's had refused to honor
this.

The three of us trundled up to the counter and denny explained that his
drive was bad and he wanted a new one. He had his receipt and his garentee
paper with him. The person beheind the counter went off to see a manager
and returned some time later, only to tell us that Fry's wasn't doing that
anymore. At this point our suited associate looked at the garentee and
said " mean that even though it states here he will get a new drive,
that you are refusing to do honor this agreement, which by the way he paid
extra for?" The guy responds " manager says we aren't doing that anymore
and that's final." At this point the MIB opens his briefcase and pulls out
some papers. He says to the clerk (with a smug grin) ", I'm from the
department of consumer affairs. You will honor this agreement. You will
bring me your manager and the store manager. You or they will contact the
owners and have them come down here immediately. If you do not comply
charges will be brought against you and any that refuse to co-operate."
The manager arrive in a very timely fashion, with a new jaz drive in hand.
When we left the suit was explaining to the store manager and the owner
that he had the power to close thier doors and spew forth so much
litigation that thier grandchildren wouldn't see the end of it.

Today was a very good day.
