Daniel,
I live in Salem, Or and the nearest Fry's Elec. is in Wilsonville, approx 37
miles North of Salem. I went to them due to there prices ( what a sucker ). I
out right explained I dont know SQUAT about computers and I need a new hard
drive because my old one was full ( 480 meg, Packard Bell legend 486 ).
I asked the sales person about a 3.1 which they had on sale for $169.00. She
said, I would not be able to use the one on sale because I need the soft ware
because PB computers were propriatary. So I bought one for $209.00. I came
back to Salem to have Computer Renissance put it in. CR said, no way it could
not be done. The 3.1 was too big for my mother board they would have to
partition it and it would not work.
I went back to Fry's to get my money back. Their Service Dept. Manager said; "
those type of big companies dont know what they are doing or the technology.
Fry's could do it". I came back to Salem to get my computer and took it to
them. Two day later I got it back. It worked fine until I tried to print. My
system said no room on HD.
I called the following day they said they did not transfer the programs. I
told them that I wanted the old HD out. What they had done was partition the
drive, and I had 3 drives, one of which was full. I took it back paid more
money to have data transfered.
The data was tranfered, I came back and it still was not working.
I took my computer back to another company for a 3rd opinion. The owner called
me and said it would take time to figure out what had been done.
In a nut shell Frys fried my new HD, HD should have never been out in a 486 (
mother board too small ). Nothing larger than a 1.7 maybe 2.1gig. I purchased
a 1.7 and had it installed. computer works like a champ.
I am sending a letter to Randy Fry, CEO, Fry's Inc. Then a letter to out
statewide paper where they advertise. I will let you know the results.
